Our primary opposition to the temporary mast in Redcatch Park is on the basis that it would be encroaching on our much loved and needed open public space and that a more suitable location should be found. We are not against having a mast in our area in principle. We understand the need for better and improved infrastructure.
But there are many residents, especially those with children, concerned about the possible health effects. So here are some links to further reading about the alleged health effects of placing telecoms masts in close proximity to people. Much of this research is refuted by the government and telecoms companies who claim that the Radio Frequency Radiation ( RFR) exposure risk is within the The International Commission on
Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guidelines (devised in 1998) and which are no longer considered by many scientists and organisations to be appropriate. Some countries have chosen to adopt safety limits orders of magnitude below ICNIRP guidelines based on scientifically observed biological effects. Furthermore, some such as France have already banned or restricted Wi-fi in some educational settings accommodating children ( source: Phire Statement 2021).
